The only thing I wanted to do was print to this printer. I thought I had done it. I even though I had a link to the driver on HP's website. But that was a dead link. I didn't know it was a generic driver that came with Windows. I just wanted to print to the printer. As it turns out, the driver I downloaded was not a working driver. I am not sure how the old driver that came with Windows 7 worked. I wish I had some information about that.
This is a driver that I spent about 2 weeks trying to get working. I have spent hours trying to get the driver installed, make sure it is working, and even re-installed Windows. I used the Durg Wizard. I ran all the hardware tests. I took all the screenshots.
A few days ago, I thought I had a working solution for my driver download. I even thought I had it working. I had a working driver (from HP), and it would install without any errors. But, it didn't work. I couldn't print. Then I un-installed and re-installed the driver from HP. I thought maybe my computer didn't like the printer. But my HP printer worked. But the new driver from HP wouldn't even install. Not only that, the test page wouldn't print. I took all the screenshots. I even tried different USB cables. I unplugged and replugged the cable. I even changed the USB ports. I tried the ribbon cable and the parallel cable.
The end result was the installation of the original driver from HP and the printer works. I have a feeling I will have to un-install and re-install the printer again. I have not yet looked at the HP website to see if there is a new driver there.
There was a website that at one time had some useful information on the driver for the printer. I didn't bookmark the site, and I can't remember the website. But the link was to try to install the driver from HP, and it would install, but it wouldn't work. It kept giving me an error message that I couldn't find a cure for. I read through all the questions on the Prolific forums.
