I was checking the Microsoft online store for their evaluation version of Windows Server 2016 and found that their shipping costs are far cheaper than the one available from Microsoft. I just can't understand why this is the case? I've had similar experiences with resellers in the past, especially in Asia. Maybe it's time to stop rescuing them. I decided to waste $34 on the evaluation version for my test purposes and I would have saved more than one year of the Windows licensing costs for the evaluation License. I just purchased a new server with Windows 10 Evaluation version and Linux as the operating system.
Last night I was testing the Windows Server 2016 evaluation build and I used the evaluation key to upgrade my in-house network to Windows Server 2016. Once I installed it, I was able to use a product key to activate it. I wasn't sure what to do about this so I searched for a blog on the Internet and I came across this.
So what happened was that I followed the instructions on the Microsoft page which says that you should use the windowsupgrade.exe application to upgrade your Windows Server from a Windows Server 2016 evaluation to a Windows Server 2016 Workstation edition. I followed the instructions to the letter and yet I wasn't able to activate the machine. I thought that would be a problem as I was using a non core key for the evaluation, so I went to the Microsoft Store page and redeemed my Windows Server 2016 Workstation key for my evaluation version and ran the Windowsupgrade.exe again. This time the machine did activate. d2c66b5586
