I did a fresh win2k install at the new location, but it says it can't find the NTFS backup. Then when I run the ntfsfix scan it says it's already mounted read only. I tried wget'ing and downloading the ntfsfix script (the caption to the image below), but I get a 64-Kb-file, and then it says the ntfsfix script is corrupt.

That's because you cannot create an NTFS image. The raw file is always a.ntfs file, which is a SquashFS file. To create an image, you must use he sbf2iso utility included in the ntfsprogs package, eg:

If you are trying to create a new image of the entire volume (or selected sectors), then you must create an NTFS partition in that empty space, not a pure NTFS volume. If you are trying to create an image of the MBR, then you need to create a partition in that space as well. You may use gparted or fdisk (or any other utility that will allow your creating the partition, then you can use the mounting trick described above).

Thanks for the feedback. I combined this topic with the Startup Repair & Recovery - Mac - NTFS issue, where I have a similar problem. However, my main problems are how to resolve and fix the NTFS issue on my Mac, and how to boot into any of my OS from safely. Using an external SSD fixed my boot problems. d2c66b5586
