Overview of the game

Story and setting

White Knight Chronicles 2 takes place one year after the events of the first game. The story follows Leonard, a young man who can transform into a powerful knight called the White Knight, and his friends as they try to stop an evil organization called the Magi from unleashing an ancient evil known as the Yshrenian Empire. The game's setting is a fantasy world called Balandor, which is divided into several kingdoms and regions, each with its own culture and history. The game's story is told through cinematic cutscenes, dialogue, and journal entries.

Gameplay and features

White Knight Chronicles 2 is a role-playing game that combines elements of action, adventure, and strategy. The game's gameplay consists of two main modes: offline mode and online mode. In offline mode, players can control one of six main characters (Leonard, Yulie, Eldore, Caesar, Kara, or Scardigne) and switch between them at any time. The other characters are controlled by artificial intelligence (AI). Players can also transform into one of five knights (White Knight, Black Knight, Dragon Knight, Moon Maiden, or Sun King) during battles, which grants them enhanced abilities and stats. Players can explore various areas and dungeons in Balandor, interact with non-player characters (NPCs), collect items and equipment, craft new items and weapons, customize their characters' appearance and skills, and complete main and side quests. In online mode, players can create their own avatars and join other players in cooperative quests. Players can also create their own towns and invite other players to visit them. The game features a real-time combat system that allows players to move freely on the battlefield, target enemies, perform attacks and combos, use items and magic spells, dodge and block attacks, and execute special moves called skills. The game also features a turn-based combat system that allows players to control their knights in battles against giant enemies called Incorruptus. The game uses a dynamic camera system that adjusts according to the player's actions and preferences. The game also supports PlayStation Move motion controller for some actions.

Characters and classes

White Knight Chronicles 2 features a diverse cast of characters, each with their own personality, background, and role in the story. The main characters are:

  • Leonard: The protagonist of the game, a young man who works as a wine delivery boy in the kingdom of Balandor. He can transform into the White Knight, a legendary knight who fought against the Yshrenian Empire 10,000 years ago. He is brave, loyal, and kind-hearted, but also impulsive and naive at times. He has a crush on Princess Cisna, the daughter of King Valtos of Balandor.

  • Yulie: Leonard's childhood friend and love interest, a young woman who works as a waitress in Rapacci's tavern. She can transform into the Moon Maiden, a mysterious knight who can manipulate water and ice. She is sweet, gentle, and caring, but also shy and insecure about her feelings. She has a strong bond with Leonard and supports him in his quest.

  • Eldore: A mysterious old man who travels with Leonard and his friends, claiming to be their mentor. He can transform into the Sun King, a powerful knight who can control fire and light. He is wise, calm, and mysterious, but also secretive and manipulative at times. He knows a lot about the history and secrets of Balandor and the knights.

  • Caesar: The prince of Faria, a rival kingdom of Balandor. He can transform into the Dragon Knight, a fierce knight who can command dragons and thunder. He is arrogant, proud, and hot-headed, but also brave, loyal, and honorable. He initially opposes Leonard and his friends, but later joins them to fight against the Magi.

  • Kara: A former member of the Magi, an evil organization that seeks to revive the Yshrenian Empire. She can transform into the Black Knight, a dark knight who can manipulate shadows and gravity. She is cold, ruthless, and cunning, but also lonely and conflicted. She betrays the Magi and joins Leonard and his friends to seek redemption.

  • Scardigne: The leader of the Archduchy of Flandar, a rebel faction that opposes both Balandor and Faria. He can transform into the Justice Knight, a noble knight who can wield justice and order. He is charismatic, ambitious, and idealistic, but also stubborn and fanatical. He fights for his vision of a united and peaceful Balandor.

In addition to the main characters, there are many other characters that appear in the game, such as Princess Cisna, King Valtos, General Dragias, Father Yggdra, Grazel, Shapur, Miu, Cyrus, Kara's father, Duke Dalam's son-in-law etc.

The game also allows players to create their own avatars and choose their own classes. There are eight classes to choose from: Swordsman (a balanced fighter who uses swords), Spearman (a swift fighter who uses spears), Axeman (a powerful fighter who uses axes), Mage (a magic user who uses staffs), Priest (a healer who uses rods), Archer (a ranged fighter who uses bows), Musician (a support character who uses instruments), and Engineer (a gadget user who uses guns). Each class has its own skills and abilities that can be learned and upgraded by spending skill points earned by leveling up.

Tips and tricks for beginners

here are some tips and tricks that might help you:

  • Save your game often. The game does not have an auto-save feature, so you need to manually save your game at save points or in your town. Saving your game will also heal your characters and restore their MP.

  • Use the fast travel option. The game allows you to fast travel to any area or town you have visited before by using a special item called a Georama Stone. This can save you a lot of time and hassle, especially when you need to backtrack or complete side quests.

  • Upgrade your equipment. The game has a crafting system that allows you to create and enhance your weapons, armor, and accessories by using materials and recipes. You can find materials by defeating enemies, opening chests, or harvesting nodes. You can find recipes by completing quests, buying them from shops, or finding them in books. Upgrading your equipment can make a big difference in your combat performance and survivability.

  • Customize your skill sets. The game has a skill system that allows you to equip and use various skills for each character and class. You can access the skill menu by pressing the triangle button and select the skills you want to use. You can also assign skills to the action palette by pressing the square button and select the slots you want to fill. You can use skills by pressing the corresponding buttons on the action palette during battles. You can also create and name your own skill sets for different situations and switch between them easily.

  • Use the knight transformation wisely. The game allows you to transform into one of five knights during battles by pressing the R2 button when the gauge is full. The knight transformation grants you enhanced abilities and stats, but it also has some drawbacks. You can only control one character at a time, and the other characters will stop fighting and follow you. You will also consume MP constantly while in knight form, and when it runs out, you will revert back to normal form. You will also lose the ability to use items and magic spells while in knight form. Therefore, you should use the knight transformation only when necessary, such as when facing tough enemies or bosses.

  • Play online with other players. The game has an online mode that allows you to join or host online sessions with other players. You can access the online mode by using a special item called a Geonet Stone or by visiting a Geonet Station in towns. You can also create your own town and invite other players to visit it by using a special item called a Georama Ticket or by visiting a Georama Station in towns. Playing online with other players can be fun and rewarding, as you can cooperate and communicate with them, complete quests together, trade items and equipment, and earn rewards and trophies.
