Bolivia and Ecuador desperately need to get a good result as soon as possible if they want to stand a real chance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Both teams are sitting bottom of the standings, with the hosts losing their previous two games.
Here’s all the information you need to know on how to watch ‘La Verde’ take on Ecuador in the CONMEBOL’s qualification tournament for the next World Cup.
Ecuador won their last outing against Uruguay in September, but they have no points after being deducted points due to issues with the records of a player during the Qatar 2022 qualifiers.
Bolivia will be looking to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1994, while Ecuador, who didn’t feature in the 2018 edition, played the tournament in Qatar last year.
What time does Bolivia vs Ecuador start?
The game between Bolivia and Ecuador will be played at the Estadio Hernando Siles, in La Paz, Bolivia, on Thursday 12 October 2023, with kick-off at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
How can I watch Bolivia vs Ecuador?
US viewers will be able to watch the game on FIFA+.
La Verde aim to turn up their level following a terrible start to the competition. Gustavo Costa’s men were destroyed by Brazil on the road, before losing 3-0 to Argentina in home soil.
La Tri, on the other hand, will be looking to claim their second consecutive victory. Felix Sanchez Bas’ side bounced back from an away defeat to the reigning world champions by taking down Uruguay at home. Will Ecuador make it back-to-back wins?
This is the battle of the last two pointless teams in Conmebol qualifying, but they are not in the same position. Bolivia are bottom of the qualifying group with two defeats from their opening two games, a really tough start to their qualification journey. They started with a 5-1 defeat to Brazil before losing 3-0 at home to Argentina. Things don’t get harder than that.
Ecuador, meanwhile, also have no points but they do have a win to their name. After opening qualifying in defeat to Argentina, Ecuador secured their first win with a come-from-behind victory against Uruguay. However, Ecuador actually started qualifying on -3 points, docked at the start of the campaign for falsifying birth documents for Byron Castillo in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. Peru had hoped the penalty would come into play in the previous campaign, but Ecuador escaped that punishment which would have seen them fail to automatically qualify for the World Cup.
The home side have endured a poor start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, kicking things off with a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Brazil. They then faced world champions Argentina in their second group game, suffering a 3-0 defeat at the Estadio Hernando Siles to record a fourth consecutive defeat to La Albiceleste.
Bolivia sit rock-bottom in the group table with zero points. They will now be looking to shake off their latest results and pick up their first win of the qualifiers this week.
Ecuador, meanwhile, faced Argentina in their first match, suffering a 1-0 defeat after Lionel Messi sent a free-kick past Hernan Galindez in goal late in the game. However, they returned to winning ways in their next game, beating Uruguay 2-1 with Felix Torres scoring a goal in either half to help overturn a one-goal deficit.
Bolivia, the perennial CONMEBOL underdog, lost both games in the first round of qualifying last month. Brazil netted a 5-1 win against them and then Argentina topped Bolivia with a 3-0 scoreline.
Bolivia will give themselves a clean slate ahead of hosting Ecuador, after starting against FIFA’s No. 1 and 3 ranked teams, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ecuador split their first two CONMEBOL matchups. Argentina topped them 1-0 but after Uruguay opened the scoring on matchday two, Félix Torres responded with a brace for Ecuador to earn the win.
And yet, Ecuador is still on zero points. La Tricolor were dinged with a three-point deduction heading into qualifying, making their upcoming matchup with Bolivia an even-point playing field.
