In 1927, he published Lawrence and the Arabs, a commercially successful biography of T. E. Lawrence. The autobiographical Good-Bye to All That (1929, revised by him and republished in 1957) proved a success but cost him many of his friends, notably Siegfried Sassoon. In 1934, he published his most commercially successful work, I, Claudius. Using classical sources (under the advice of classics scholar Eirlys Roberts)[39] he constructed a complex and compelling tale of the life of the Roman emperor Claudius, a tale extended in the sequel Claudius the God (1935). I, Claudius received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1934. Later, in the 1970s, the Claudius books were turned into the very popular television series I, Claudius, with Sir Derek Jacobi shown in both Britain and United States. Another historical novel by Graves, Count Belisarius (1938), recounts the career of the Byzantine general Belisarius.
After returning to Britain, Graves began a relationship with Beryl Hodge, the wife of Alan Hodge, his collaborator on The Long Week-End (1940) and The Reader Over Your Shoulder (1943; republished in 1947 as The Use and Abuse of the English Language but subsequently republished several times under its original title). Graves and Beryl (they were not to marry until 1950) lived in Galmpton, Torbay until 1946, when they re-established a home with their three children, in Deià, Majorca. The house is now a museum. The year 1946 also saw the publication of his historical novel King Jesus. He published The White Goddess: A Historical Grammar of Poetic Myth in 1948; it is a study of the nature of poetic inspiration, interpreted in terms of the classical and Celtic mythology he knew so well.[40] He turned to science fiction with Seven Days in New Crete (1949) and in 1953 he published The Nazarene Gospel Restored with Joshua Podro. He also wrote Hercules, My Shipmate, published under that name in 1945 (but first published as The Golden Fleece in 1944).

Abstract:The clinical application of human platelet lysate (HPL) holds promise for tissue regeneration, and the development of an efficient vehicle for its delivery is desired. Chitosan-based hydrogels are potential candidates, but they often exhibit weak mechanical properties. In this study, a chitosan/gelatin (CS-GE) hydrogel crosslinked by glyoxal was fabricated for sustained release of HPL. The influence of HPL on Hs68 fibroblast and human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) culture was evaluated, and we found that supplementing 5% HPL in the medium could significantly improve cell proliferation relative to supplementing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). Moreover, HPL accelerated the in vitro wound closure of Hs68 cells and facilitated the tube formation of HUVECs. Subsequently, we fabricated CS-GE hydrogels crosslinked with different concentrations of glyoxal, and the release pattern of FITC-dextrans (4, 40 and 500 kDa) from the hydrogels was assessed. After an ideal glyoxal concentration was determined, we further characterized the crosslinked CS-GE hydrogels encapsulated with different amounts of HPL. The HPL-incorporated hydrogel was shown to significantly promote the proliferation of Hs68 cells and the migration of HUVECs. Moreover, the release pattern of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) from hydrogel was examined in vitro, demonstrating a sustained release profile of the growth factors. Finally, the chick chorioallantoic membrane assay revealed that HPL encapsulation in the hydrogel significantly stimulated angiogenesis in ovo. These results demonstrate the great potential of the crosslinked CS-GE hydrogel to serve as an effective delivery system for HPL to promote tissue regeneration.Keywords: human platelet lysate; chitosan; gelatin; glyoxal; hydrogel; angiogenesis; tissue regeneration

Trimming lowered the abundance of AM fungi within the older roots. Our measure of fungal abundance, mtDNA concentration, is also associated with metabolic activity. This difference in mtDNA, together with the lack of difference in colonization (arbuscules, vesicles and total), indicates less mycorrhizal activity within the older roots of trimmed root systems. Why does trimming the root system lower the mycorrhizal activity within the older roots It could be that trimming roots causes a greater need for the regeneration of new roots and mycorrhizal symbiosis. Further, it has been shown that plants with a loss of root area may depend more upon the mycorrhizal symbiosis [32, 33]. If trimming causes increased root production and a greater dependency on the mycorrhizal symbiosis, more mycorrhizal development would likely be concentrated in newer roots, pulling resources and activity away from the older root system potentially resulting in the increased mtDNA in the lower, younger roots. While this is speculative, it indicates that a better understanding is on how root disturbance, such as root damage, can influence both plant carbon and biomass allocation, and the subsequent effects on mycorrhizal development.
That we observed no difference in root biomass between trimmed and untrimmed root systems provides evidence that root trimming increased the allocation of biomass toward root development and regeneration, maintaining their shoot:root ratio. This redistribution of biomass in response to root trimming has been previously observed [39, 40]. This increase in root production is important to growers as it indicates that the root system will regenerate after root pruning, while also being provided the benefits of avoiding J-rooting. While aboveground biomass production may be reduced, the allocation toward root may be more beneficial in the establishment of young vines, an area that needs to be tested further in the field.
Review of the English orthopaedic literature reveals no prior report of endoscopic repair of rectus abdominis tears and/or prepubic aponeurosis detachment. This technical report describes endoscopic reattachment of an avulsed prepubic aponeurosis and endoscopic repair of a vertical rectus abdominis tear immediately after endoscopic pubic symphysectomy for coexistent recalcitrant osteitis pubis as a single-stage outpatient surgery. Endoscopic rectus abdominis repair and prepubic aponeurosis repair are feasible surgeries that complement endoscopic pubic symphysectomy for patients with concurrent osteitis pubis and expand the less invasive options for patients with athletic pubalgia.
Fate of radium (Ra) in liquid regeneration brine wastes from water softeners disposed to septic tanks in the New Jersey Coastal Plain was studied. Before treatment, combined Ra ((226)Ra plus (228)Ra) concentrations (maximum, 1.54 Bq L(-1)) exceeded the 0.185 Bq L(-1) Maximum Contaminant Level in 4 of 10 studied domestic-well waters (median pH, 4.90). At the water table downgradient from leachfields, combined Ra concentrations were low (commonly < or =0.019 Bq L(-1)) when pH was >5.3, indicating sequestration; when pH was < or =5.3 (acidic), concentrations were elevated (maximum, 0.985 Bq L(-1) - greater than concentrations in corresponding discharged septic-tank effluents (maximum, 0.243 Bq L(-1))), indicating Ra mobilization from leachfield sediments. Confidence in quantification of Ra mass balance was reduced by study design limitations, including synoptic sampling of effluents and ground waters, and large uncertainties associated with analytical methods.
