In November 1980 Lennon, who had befriended Islamists, visited the home of Yasir Qadhi, a friend of his cousin Parkes, in London during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. He said he visited because there was a local restaurant he liked, and he also wanted to see the annual procession of the Meccan caravan in Coventry, England, and a clear day of Mecca, Islam's holy city.

Lennon's neighbor, Paul McCartney, accompanied him on the trip.
